Mk III Factory Five Racing Challenge Car for Sale

This is one of the Top 10 fastest Factory Five Challenge cars in the country, based on the 2007 National Championship race lap times.

This is the Rennwerks #85 Factory Five Racing (FFR) Challenge car which was campaigned by Paul McGarvey during 2006 and 2007 race seasons.  The car has been professionally prepared and maintained by Rennwerks.  It is legal for the NASA FFR Challenge series, but can also be run in NASA PTA and TTA, or with additional modifications could be competitive in NASA ST-2.  It would also make a fine track day car with the passenger seat installed.  The car is not currently registered for the street, but was originally build to be street legal so it could easily be made street legal again.  The car comes with full road trim including the street windshield and extra set of wheels.  This car needs no work to race – just jump in and drive.  Car comes with a NASA log book and AMB transponder.

The car is very competitive and reliable.  At the recent 2007 NASA Championships at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, Paul McGarvey finished 8th after starting from 17th on grid.  In the process, he turned a lap time of 1:40.15, which was the seventh fastest time of any FFR Challenge car during the 2007 Nationals at Mid-Ohio.  During the championship race, the car was still gaining ground on the leaders when the 35 minute race ended.  During the 2007 season, the car had no DNFs.

This is a Mk2 chassis which was upgraded to Mk3 chassis during the build.  The build was finished in late 2005.  Rennwerks completely went thru the car in early 2006 to make it more competitive.  Some of the modifications and upgrades on this car include the following:

• Forward position shifter with S10 tail housing
• Upgraded to 5-lug rear axles and 5-lugs in front
• Upgraded to the latest Bilsteins spec series shocks
• Replaced the FFR springs with Hypercoil springs with more competitive spring rates
• Welded-in shoulder harness bar to Mk3 specifications
• Installed an in-car radio harness (radio not included)
• Installed AMB transponder
• Installed improved rear view side mirrors
• Added a remote oil cooler with SS lines
• Added a remote power steering cooler
• Replaced the quick ratio power steering rack with a standard ratio power steering rack
• Replaced high pressure power steering pump with low pressure power steering pump for improved feel
• Replaced OEM brake master cylinder with a new CNC dual master cylinder
• Installed adjustable brake bias adjustment knob
• Added improved brake ducting
• Installed steel braided brake lines
• Repositioned rear brake calipers in front of rear wheels for better cooling and to allow use of 2.5" dia springs
• Replaced the stock crank pulley with an ultra small race underdrive pulley
• Relocated fuel lines away from exhaust headers for added safety
• Added additional fire suppression nozzle in engine compartment
• Installed new MSD spark plug wires with heat boots
• New oxygen sensors
• New MAF meter
• Installed longer race wheel studs
• Installed FFR tow hooks on front and back
• Modified fuel cell and area above fuel cell to check fuel level with dip stick
• Flipped rear shocks to lower unsprung weight
• Added Simpson right side net
• Replaced drivers side belts with new Simpson 5-point latch belts
• Added a radiator protective screen
• Added an oil cooler protective screen

Recent work completed in the last two months include:

• Corner balance and alignment (per Dave Standridge specifications, current FFR National Champion)
• New high performance carbon kevlar clutch
• Newly rebuild rear diff to race specs
• New front brake rotors and Carbotech brake pads
• New Carbotech rear brake pads
• New rear Bilstein shocks (replaced at the 2007 NASA Championships)
• New alternator
• New battery
• New serpentine belt
• New K&N filter
• New right side j-pipe and sidepipe
• Repainted both side pipes
• New Toyo RA-1 shaved tires, used only 4 sessions

Spares included with the car include:

• Extra set of MB Motorsport wheels (which weigh exactly the 20 lb min weight)
• Street windshield
• Kirkey passenger seat and Simpson 5-point belts

Interior

The car has a Kirkey driver's seat with 5-point Simpson latch belts and a Simpson right side net.  It has a removable steering wheel which uses the positive lock splined quick release hub, not the ball bearing type hub which has been failing on a number of Challenge cars recently.  The car has full Autometer gages including tach, oil pressure, oil temp, water temp, and voltage.  Master power cut-off switch.
