Underlying Philosophy
European vehicles in their various iconations serve as a status symbol for those who drive them. The cars represent their drivers as persons of refinement, style, hip, achievement, and success. The automotive business is a service industry. European car owners deserve the best service, compassion, and care for them and their European vehicles. They have worked hard to achieve the success which has enabled them to purchase such expensive luxuries.
Brief History
Rennwerks began its life out of the interest of a couple friends who had a passion for racing and were frustrated at the lack of capable shops in the area that could support their hobby. The two talented drivers who loved racing Porsches, had met during several club events. In 1998, they were chatting over some food and beer at a bar in the Seattle, Washington, after finishing a club racing event. They decided to pursue professional racing in the American Le Mans, and Rolex Race Series. They achieved many honors and accolades. RennWerks was created to supplement their operations and to service the automotive needs of those individuals who are passionate about BMWs and Porsches.
In 2006 Rennwerks relocated to Campbell from its Mountain View location due to a last minute sale of property by the landowner. Its doors remained closed for nearly 8 months during the move while trying to obtain new permits and licenses in the City of Campbell. In 2008, the original owners Kevin Mitz and David Standridge ceased public operations, but continued to race under the Rennwerks LLC name and licenses.
Michael Johnson, a patron and supporter of RennWerks, didn't want to see such a great name die. In 2009 he purchased the trademark rights to use the Rennwerks name and some of its equipment and opened RennWerks Performance, Inc. in the same location to continue to service the needs of local European car owners and enthusiasts in Silicon Valley. With the inclusion of Michael Johnson’s skills and knowledge, the business expanded its capabilities to include Audi, Ferrari, Mercedes, Mini, Porsche, and VW repair.
