09 May Audi R8 e-tron Saga
Audi R8 e-tron Saga
The Audi R8 e-tron saga continues. Audi powered e-tron LMP race cars have successfully compaigned in Le Mans. Despite the race victories, Audi, has had a difficult time generating public demand for their innovative electric car platform. The initial R8 e-tron cars were proposed in 2012 and then cancelled. There was revitalization of the program for the 2nd generation Audi R8 to have e-tron, but after selling less than a 100 examples, Audi pulled the plug. The $1 million price tag may just be too hard for people to swallow when there are far more powerful petrol powered and some other high performance alternatives such as the BMW i8 on the market for much less money. The 2nd generation R8 e-tron produced 465 horsepower, 679 pound-feet of torque, has 3.9 seconds 0-62mph time, and a range of 280 miles. Our hopes is that Audi will bring the e-tron back to life at a better price point.
